BENJAMIN HARRISON Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia To all whom these present shall come Greeting know ye that in consideration of the sum of four hundred pounds paid by John Patterson into the Treasury of this commonwealth there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto the said John Patterson a certain tract or parcel of land containing one thousand acres, Surveyed the twenty third day of March one thousand seven hundred eighty one, lying and being in the county of Lincoln on both sides of the hanging fork of the Dicks River, adjoining James Gilmore's settlement on the South East side being in part of a Treasury Warrant's number four thousand two hundred and ninety seven, four hundred and forty three and a half acres of which is bounded as followeth to wit.--

Beginning on Jackman's line at the Sycamore tree on the River bank thence North sixty five degrees. West one hundred and forty poles to a white walnut tree on the bank of the River, thence South twenty five degrees West four hundred and twenty poles crofsing (crossing) the fork to two hickorys on the top of a ridge, thence South sixty five degrees East two hundred poles to a beech tree, thence North fifteen degrees, East four hundred and thirty poles corfsing (crossing) the fork to the beginning, the Residue five hundred fifty six and a half acres, adjoining the above Survey in the northwest side and bounded as followeth to wit-

Beginning on his line at a hickory beech and sugar tree hence North sixty five degrees, West two hundred and ninety eight poles to a beech tree on the top of a ridge, thence South twenty five degrees, West two hundred and ninety eight and a half poles to an Ash tree and sugar tree, thence South sixty five degrees East two hundred and ninety eight poles to a sugar three in a Cain patch, thence North twenty five degrees East two hundred ninety eight and a half poles corfsing (crossing) the large hold the said tract or parcel of land with its appartenancee to the said John Patterson, and his heirs forever. In Witnefs whereaf the said Benjamin Harrison Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia hath, hereunto set his hand, and caused the lefser Seal of the said Commonwealth to be affixed at Richmond on the first day of September in the year of our Lord, one thousand, seven hundred and eighty two, and of the commonwealth the seventh.
