Bible Records
Family Bibles are invaluable in genealogy research, especially for the 18th and 19th centuries when official birth, marriage, and death records were often nonexistent or incomplete. These Bibles frequently contain handwritten family records—exact dates, full names (including maiden names), locations, and sometimes additional details like multiple children or notes about events—recorded close to the time they happened. They can provide primary-source evidence to fill gaps, confirm relationships, break through research dead-ends, and offer a personal window into ancestors’ lives and faith. Though entries should be verified when possible and not every Bible survives, surviving family Bibles remain one of the most treasured and reliable tools for tracing lineage and preserving family history.
